ALEXANDER RAYMOND

Painting
The Inner and Outer Worlds

The painting studio class is a space where participants can experiment creatively and express themselves. The focus is on the collegial exchange of experiences, knowledge, and methodological approaches to foster independent artistic development. We explore the so-called “inner and outer worlds,” the interplay between form and content, and in doing so, we experiment with various possibilities for artistic expression.

In this course, we explore the theme of “Figure in Space” from a broad artistic perspective—that is, the interaction between the human figure and its surroundings.

We experiment with a variety of creative approaches to explore this theme. For example, we might paint directly from life using a model, or gather impressions through sketches, studies, collages, and other media.

The figurative starting point can also serve as a catalyst for radical abstraction and for engaging in an open, improvised painting process.
