A temporary space for experimental work without a predetermined outcome

We deliberately run our summer academy as a nonprofit organization. Our social mission is to facilitate and promote cultural education and networking among artists. To make this accessible to everyone, Pentiment offers talented college students, high school students, immigrants, and artists the opportunity to serve as assistants and receive scholarships free of charge.

Pentiment has been offering courses in art and design since 1988. Every summer, professional artists and designers, talented self-taught individuals, and art and design students come together here for two weeks. Regardless of age, educational background, or origin, participants engage in an intensive exchange as equals. They are guided by renowned instructors from Germany and abroad. Pentiment takes place on the campus of the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences (HAW) / Department of Design. This is made possible thanks to a cooperation agreement with the HAW’s Department of Design.

Our course program is also accompanied by an extensive public program. Lectures by visiting professors, curators, and authors, as well as films, concerts, and festivals, are open to participants and interested visitors. At the conclusion of the Summer Academy, the work from all courses will be presented in a large public exhibition.
